Summer is here! What shows are you watching?

The skies are clear, the weather is warm, the flowers are blooming ... it's the first day of summer and there are fantastic shows on the small screen! It used to be that there was very little worth watching on TV during the summer months, but that's a thing of the past. There's so much great stuff on the small screen many DVRs will likely be working overtime instead of taking a break.

Just look at just some of the summer TV offerings:

• "Hell's Kitchen," Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox

Now you see why DVRs are so busy during the summer? (And that isn't even the full list!) Before you complain that your favorite isn't included above, take a gander below. Here's what we'll be glued to the couch for this season:

'Royal Pains,' Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on USA
Somehow, and without me quite knowing when, summer and ?Royal Pains? became synonymous. This is a fascinating development mostly because I don?t even like the show very much. I find many of the characters to be rather cloying, and the while the main premise of ?Handsome Concierge Doctor X saves Hamptons Damsel in Distress Y? is innocuous enough, ?the subplots that drive the show week to week are ridiculous at their worst and predictable at best. But I?m apparently a sucker for a pretty setting and some television that doesn?t make you think too much (see also: ?Teen Mom? or any ?Real Housewives? franchise). And for several seasons, Henry Winkler guest starred! Easy viewing and The Fonz in the Hamptons -- what?s not to like? -- Courtney Hazlett

'True Blood,' Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO
It's time to celebrate the hallmarks of summer: long days, cookouts, beach weather and vampires! Sure, the undead crowd isn't known for their sun-and-fun ways, but for "True Blood" fans, the hottest season of the year is just as much about the bloodsuckers of Bon Temps (and the werewolves, shapeshifters, witches and others) as it is about the rest of that. Much like the?Charlaine Harris books the HBO series is based on, "True Blood" is?a guilty pleasure. Almost the entire cast qualifies as easy on the eyes (and things just got even easier now that former "Law & Order: SVU" star Chris?Meloni is laying down the law on the show) and whether they're scaring up bloody violence, romancing one another or just playing it for laughs with over-the-top adventures, the results are?satisfying?summertime fun. -- Ree Hines

'Breaking Bad,' premieres Sunday, July 15 at 9 p.m. on AMC
I fully admit: I watch too much TV during the summer. There's just so much good stuff! "Teen Mom," "Top Chef Masters," "Drop Dead Diva," "Hell's Kitchen" ... the list seems endless. Sure, most of that is fun fluff, but at the top of my list -- and one of the few shows I actually watch as it airs -- is the critically acclaimed "Breaking Bad." What about two meth cookers killing and scheming their way to the top of the drug ring doesn't say summer?! OK, all of it. But hey, the show's set in New Mexico, where it's always hot! Seriously, though, the transformation of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) from good family man to evil drug boss is too mesmerizing to miss regardless of what the weather is outside. -- Anna Chan

'Project Runway,' premieres Thursday, July 19 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime
It's (almost) ba-aaaack! Another season of "Project Runway" is just weeks away! (I'm so excited I couldn't help but sneak a second show onto this list!) OK, it hasn't been that long since the last iteration of the show -- the all-star one -- signed off. But for many "Runway" fans, including yours truly, the all-star round just didn't count. Sure, it featured familiar faces competing for fashion's top reality-show honors and it righted one heck of a wrong when?Mondo Guerra finally got his due, but it lacked a couple of all-important elements -- namely Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum. The latter is, of course, the face of "Runway" and often offers important counterpoints to the questionable calls of judges Michael?Kors and Nina Garcia (a couple of regulars who weren't so missed during the off season). And the former ... well, if Heidi's the face, then mentor Tim is the heart and the brain (and the always-witty mouth) of the show. Without them, it really isn't "Runway." -- Ree Hines

'The Newsroom,' debuts Sunday, June 24 at 10 p.m. on HBO
?The Newsroom? will both glamorize and question the world of broadcast journalism that prolific Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin sees as taking a definitive nosedive. While the show will likely feature a condescending view of today?s newsrooms (?Why, oh, why does the media cover so much of the world?s meaningless fluff?? it seems to moan), the potential of Sorkin?s mighty pen will make it must-watch television for me this summer. It could end up another self-important piece peddling puffed-up morals ? la ?Studio 60,? but my fingers are crossed that it will land in the witty, socially revealing territory that he so beautifully carved out with ?The West Wing.??With Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and Sam Waterson, it has a cast built for success. The rest is up to Sorkin.??-- Cody Delistraty
