The British pianist Stephen Hough has been delighting audiences round the world for the past 30 years. His latest album, the third in a series of national music, features French composers. The recording is superb with fine presence and balance.
He has the rare gift of technical mastery combined with great sensitivity. For example, listen to his interpretation of the hugely demanding ?R?miniscences de La Juive? by Liszt followed by gentler pieces by Faur? and Poulenc. The 17 tracks make for a delightful recital of 19th and 20th century French music, some well known like ?Clair de Lune? by Debussy and some rarities such as ?Automne? by Chaminade.?
